“I usually arrive at Ella’s a little stressed out. But I soon feel Ella’s genuine open, friendly and calm presence rub off on me. As soon as I start working with the beautiful flowers there is a calming joy.
I am always so delighted to take my Ikebana arrangement home. It makes me proud to look at during the week, my husband loves it and my friends often comment on the sheer beauty of it. Thank you so much Ella”

Learn Ikebana the Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement
Ikebana means “living flowers”, so we give the cut flowers, branches, leaves a second life and always try to give a bit of our self in that arrangement. Ikebana has been practiced for about 1.500 years and had it origin in Buddhism and in the Shinto-Religion.
Shintoism has gods in every tree, flower, in the mountains, in stones, gras, water etc. They tried to be in harmony with every living being. So does Ikebana and the people who do Ikebana.! We work in a very calm, meditativ atmosphere with focus only on our creation.
Having studied Sogetsu - Ikebana in Tokyo Japan for 11 years and owning my own Ikebana - school in Germany for over 35 years I now call the beautiful Sunshine Coast my home.
I teach small Ikebana classes on Friday-morning-classes with 2 - 6 people. Each course runs for 5 weeks. I cater directly to my students’ needs and their individual skill level from beginners to very advanced, following the official Sogetsu-Ikebana-Curriculum.
Our intensive special workshops are highly sought after as they are a one off for a special topic. For example: Easter - Winter-Special, Native Plants, Christmas, Japanese Children’s - day. The special workshops range from 3 to 5 hours. No prior knowledge is required for these.
If you are not on the Sunshine Coast I offer Online Ikebana courses in English or German on Wednesday evenings ( 6pm - 7.30 pm QLD). Please just get in touch to find out more.

How does it work?
We always start with having a cup of tea while we chat about the upcoming lesson. You will learn about the materials to be used and I help you chose the most suitable container or vase. During a demonstration I show you step by step how to work with the material, what to be aware of and so on.
After you have showed me your flowers, twigs and leaves, you get to work on your own creation. You can be certain that I am always here to provide you with the help and support you may need.
You will go home every time with a beautiful creation and a smile.
Due to my over 35 years of teaching Ikebana, you will naturally develop a profound understanding and an inner knowing of the ideal dimensions, combination of materials, colours, forms and a lot more.
You will also become proficient in the various and best ways to cut stems, flowers, branches and leaves. And you will automatically get a sense which materials are bendable and shapable and which are not. During the lessons you will also learn a lot more about Japanese culture and customs. And if you like there is a chance for you to participate in the Sogetsu Ikebana Brisbane Annual Exhibition 13th & 14th June.
In my small groups we finish by admiring each students’ Ikebana. The great variety created from the same materials never fails to amaze my students nor myself.
Throughout the year we also create Ikebana arrangements in alignment with traditional Japanese or Western holidays, whether that’d be New Years, Easter or Christmas.
